Department of Public Health was first established at the University of Indonesia (UI).
The original idea of the establishment of FKM-UI was first coined by Dr. Mochtar, who served as Chief of Public Health and Preventive Medicine FK-UI which is then followed by a doctor Sajono Sumodidjojo in 1964 with the proposed project to the Rector of the University of Indonesia, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Representatives WHO in Indonesia.
By the Decree of the Minister of Higher Education and Science No. 26 of 1965 dated February 26, 1965 it was decided that the School of Public Health set up under the auspices of the University of Indonesia. On tanggal13 March 1965 Preparatory Committee for the Establishment of FKMUI formed whose members consist of representatives of the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Health, Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Labor. Decree of the Minister of Higher Education and Science No. Decree 153/1965 fixing earlier, set a date for the establishment of FKMUI, ie July 1, 1965.

After the formation of FKM-UI, several other public universities also memrintis establishment FKM like Airlannga University, University Diponogero, Hasnuddin University, and the University of North Sumatra. AKK department in FKM-UI is divided into several specializations namely, Management of Health Insurance, Health Services Management and Hospital Management. Used for the Master's degree in Public Health Sciences in general is a Master of Health (Kes) or Master of Public Health (MSM). But there is also a master of public health program that already has a specific title.
